Australian Charities Report released

The Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) has recently released the 2017 edition of the Australian Charities Report.

The report summarises the ACNC’s analysis of information received from charities in their Annual Information Statements.

Some of the key highlights:

• Approximately 65% of charities are defined as small (with annual revenue of less than $250,000)

• The most common charity was those associated with religious activities (accounting for 30% of all registered charities)

• There are now over 3.3 million volunteers across Australia’s charities (compared to 2.9 million in the previous year)

• Almost 44% of registered charities stated they were an incorporated association (that reported to a separate state or territory regulator)
